The
name says it all, We Care. Our projects and involvement in the
community all reflect this. As a part of the mission of our
congregation which is grounded in compassion, respect and
open-mindedness we focus on service to others and to building a
caring and inclusive community. Our outreach includes projects that
help others. It is the belief that in helping others we help
ourselves. Here are some of our more recent endeavors..... Aid
For Friends is
a community organization committed to helping out the needy. We are proud of our involvement with this group throughout the years. We go there to help out whether it is to stock shelves, cook, or prepare meals. Those helped includes elderly people who are shut ins, who are in need
of extra care. Their mission statement: Aid
For Friends' mission is to serve needy, isolated shut-ins, primarily
the frail elderly, in the 5 county Greater Philadelphia area, with
free daily home-cooked meals delivered weekly by empathetic volunteer
visitors, and also to provide shut-ins with free out reach services.
The goal is to help our homebound "client/friends" maintain
their cherished independence by supporting their determination to
remain in their own homes for as long as possible and to enhance
their quality of life. Link to their site: http://www.aidforfriends.org/ Family Services Homeless Shelter
We will continue to make hot Sunday breakfasts
throughout the year at the homeless shelter. This is done usually on the 1st. and 3rd. Sundays of the month. We have a great time doing it and
we are pleasing a lot of hungry mouths who otherwise would not have a
hot breakfast. When you are done you still have the rest of the day
to yourselves and you can even still make UUFLB services! Our volunteers hard at work making delicious meals at the Family Services Homeless Shelter. We call them the Breakfast Club!
Martin Luther King Service Day Every year members of UUFLB and friends volunteer in honor of this great humanitarian. In the last few years we have worked on projects to clean up, paint, a renovate at Family Promise of Lower Bucks and Libertae. The former is a resource for homeless families (currently on hiatus) and the latter is place for women and their families to get help for addiction issues. Special priority is given to pregnant women. Split Plate Collections Every Sunday we have a split plate collection. Half of the collection goes toward a special concern in the local or greater community. These collections go alternatively to local, regional, and global concerns. In the past year we have sent monetary assistance to many groups and plan to continue in the future. See our monthly newsletter to get the current details. Pride Fest (held in May). We take pride in being a Welcoming congregation Our yearly participation in the Pride Parade that occurs in New Hope is a way of celebrating this. We have marched side by side with other religious groups, service organizations, local politicians, musicians and local businesses as a show of support for the LGBT community. We are solid in our stance and very vocal in our message of "standing on the side of love." To learn more about he event see their website: http://www.newhopecelebrates.com/ |
